Tuskegee, Alabama.. a lovely little city!

Located in southeast Alabama, approximately 40 miles east of Montgomery and 125 miles southwest of Atlanta.  Tuskegee maintains and rejoices in its historically enriched background.  Tuskegee served as the home of famous educators, such as Booker T. Washington, George Carver, and William Levi Dawson, as well as being the birthplace of Rosa Parks, the "mother of the civil rights movement."  

Tuskegee is also famous for being the home of the Lonely Eagles" - as the Tuskegee Airmen are known.  This was the only African American air squadron that served during WWII.  With its peaceful southern hospitality, the lovely little city of Tuskegee houses a world renown education institution founded by Lewis Adams and George Campbell - the men responsible for inviting Booker T. Washington to create the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial School in 1881.  In 1937 the school was renamed Tuskegee Institute.  In 1965, U.S. Department of the Interior designated this Institute of higher education as a Registered National Historic Landmark, and in 1974, the site of Tuskegee Institute became part of the National Park System.  Tuskegee University adopted its present name in 1985.  This is one of the first African American private institutions for higher education in the United States which presently offers varied.
